Firstly I'v been wanting to write this post up for a while, but have been pretty bloody busy, better late then never!

Well it was Easter and ANZAC day just past, the father in-law had received his brand new BAR CRUSHER a 670 HT, the rest of his family had been out by now so I had the week off and planned a few trips and I'm glad I did!

Trip 1: My wife and the in-laws headed out at a family friendly time of 6am leaving from wynum, with fresh squid and some pillies as bait. Headed out to the shipping beacons (it was flat as a tac and pretty busy, the water was still warm). We had a lot of bites and a lot of fish were been landed all around us but we struggled to get one to stick. We were fishing a bit light but the mother in law managed to land a spotty under size and released, then my wife's line went off, to her credit she handled it all her self and after a good fight got the fish on the boat, A PB for her and the biggest on the new boat so far! she landed another one that was released, meanwhile me and the father in-law keeped getting bit off it wasnt our day! called it and went to tangers for lunch then back home, a pretty good day all round.

Trip 2: Set off at around 4am with a second bar crusher in tow, just me and the father in-law in his this time. After the last trip I decided I needed to up my gear so got some 20lb braid and 60lb leader. Only a 113m of 20lb braid that was tied flippantly on to 6lb mono (i thought it 113m was enough i was wrong :o). Headed over to the beacons inside moreton up past tangalooma, caught a few yakkas and worked our way up the beacons, 5,6,7,8,9am nothing.....

I'm laying on the esky falling asleep complaining that the wife has a better PB then me and maybe we should call it when..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz line starts jumping off the spool! nothing to do but jump up and hold on! the first run went for what must have been 70m/80m before I could get any line back! only manged to get a few meters before it took off again, we started to up anchor as i saw the backing quickly approaching! (really regretting the lack of care i took joining the braid to the backing) the backing starts running out and i backed off the drag as I didnt want to test my knots to much or the breaking strain of the 6lb mono! chased it for about 400m and slowly got my line back, then we saw the beast (in my books any way) a long tail tuna! a well placed gaff and it was on board! MY PB 16KG LONG FIN TUNA! biggest fish by abuot 13KG! was I stoked! With out making a long story longer the father in-law manged one as well went the exact same weight! (no bragging rights to either of us:'(). That said his fish managed to take the rod through 4 individuals and two boats to avoid been busted off around the marker!

Thanks for reading if you got this far! I dont get to catch many fish worth writing about, was way to much fun against such a formidable opponent!103864103865103866103867

Well done Mate, still chasing my first longtail, looking forward to that feeling.
Bit of wasabi, actually enough to make your eyes water doesn't go astray either.
Cheers,
Chris
