Normally when I report from Marcoola there is seldom a feed of fish involved. Yesterday during a morning walk along the beach with my wife I stopped and caught a couple of beach worms using a pippy. Later, I fished the beach on the high and got 1 bream and 2 whiting which was pretty pleasing considering my past efforts.

This morning we joked about doing it again in order to get enough to make up a feed so when we managed to again find some worms on our walk things were looking good. This time I headed out an hour before the high. Found a nice gutter, but only managed small dart. Moved to a bank between two gutters and was very happy to score a couple of whiting in quick succession. On the high things went quiet so tried several other spots but only managed more dart.

Moved back to the first spot but there was a group swimming where I wanted to fish so was relegated to the deeper water which by this time must have been teaming with small dart. Every cast ended in a boil of dozen fish swarming the bait, although fun at first it quickly became annoying. The swimmers moved off so I went back to the bank and was immediately rewarded. Spent the next hour or so picking up 10 more keeper whiting, throwing back a few plus the obligatory dart.

Left them still biting.

Best day's fishing I have had from the beach at Marcoola. Final tally was 13 whiting to add to yesterday's, biggest went 30cm but most were around 25cm.

We will eat well tonight. Hope everyone has a safe Easter.

Thanks for the report, always good to be rewarded with some fish. Were the worm few and far between or grouped up?
cheers Darren

Darren,

The worms were mostly grouped up. I tried every hundred meters or so during our walk and found the odd one but it wasn't until I was three-quarters of the way to Yaroomba that I found them in numbers. Got half a dozen in a few minutes using a pilly to bring them to the surface and a pippy to grab them.
