The Easter Lake Burrendong Classic fishing competition is building to be bigger and better than ever, with much needed rains seeing in stream gauges in the upper Macquarie River serge from a zero flow to a 430 mega litre charge. The rain couldn’t have come at a better time for the competition, and has injected a much needed fresh into Lake Burrendong, which until now had been dropping rapidly for months on end. The rainfall is anticipated to breathe new life into the lakes waters, with the annual catch and release competition to be held in just over six weeks’ time.
The first day of March saw inflows into Lake Burrendong reach over 800 megalitres, with dam levels going up instead of down for the first time in many moons. Lake Burrendong crept from 14.3% to 14.5% in a matter of days, with further increases due to rainfall in the catchment and reduced releases expected.
Sponsorships continue to flow in for the not for profit event, with both old supporters returning and new backers digging deep to ensure that the volunteer committee can continue to tackle major projects that benefit the local waterways.
