Steve is a mate of mine who has been keen to chase prawns for a few years now. He lives on the south side of the river, so sometimes you have to take pity on him and show him what the northside has to offer.
We towed my tinny up to Bribie and ran up to my secret prawning spot. Because its secret, I can't tell anyone where it is, but if you though of a name similar to what you would call a small aluminium boat, you would be close.
Things wre fairly quiet at first with just a few prawns coming up with each cast, so that gave me plenty of time to get Steve throwing the full size net and acheiving a reasonable spread. At the bottom of the tide, the prawns started running and we went from getting ones and twos to handfulls and eventually a couple of shots that had genuine half kilo loads in the top of the net. I really enjoyed seeing the look on Steve's face when his first good haul of bananas came up.
The photo shows the efforts of just over 3 hours casting, with the majority coming in the last hour. For the record, there is 18 litres of prawns in the pile, so thats a bag out for both of us.
Peeled a couple of dozen when I got home, and pan fried them in a little chilli oil and they were delicious. The remainder will be cooked up tomorrow morning and put on ice. Going to a work reunion on Saturday morning and it will be nice to role up and show my old work colleagues what retirement is all about.
Cheers
Jeff
