Well first trip was a very memorable one. Left home very early and out in the seaway about 4.30. Great morning with light winds and a small swell.

Trolled down to Palm Beach Reef with not mcuh action - one hit (Yellowfin Tuna) but not hook up.

Trolled around Plamy for a while and there were no takers. Then I started throwing out unweighted ganged Pillies and got smashed.

Took aorund 5 minutes before the first Spotty was onboard quickly followed by another then the first of many bustoffs and bite offs.

Ended up with my bag limit - biggest fish went 97 cms and the smallest 68 cms. Everyone was hooking up which was good to see :-)

Trolled back with no hits and watched some boats just uoutside the seaway getting amongst the Macks as well.

I now have 12kgs of Mackeral sitting in the fridge and will start looking for recipes!

Enjoyable Morning!

We went down to Mermaid reef with about 50+ other boats this morning, looked like everyone was getting amongst them and they were pretty thick in parts. All spotties no spanish though. Floating pillies was the go although we got a couple on large metals as well.

Yea we fished just out from the seaway and got a few spotties, biggest going 86 and many lost fish. Had one spanish at just over a meter!
At times schools would come through and you could see where the school was going as different boats hooked up, great morning!

Still after that Spanish! Good effort all round.

The fisheries paid a visit to the Mermaid reef at about 9.30am and were doing random inspections, good to see.

Good looking girls as well. The young guys next to me pissed off in a real hurry when the fisheries patrol turned up after boasting they had 18 Macks between the three of them - but I have their rego ;D
