View Full Version : Do you like the changes to the 'Thanks/Like/Disagree' notification system??
I'm interested to see if the majority of ausfishers support the changes to the 'Thanks/Like/Disagree' notification system. Please cast your vote. Dont be shy! It is private so your name to your vote wont be able to be seen. Vote away even if you dont care.
Cheers

Resounding NO from me. I can see why the change could happen. Having your name seen may frighten children.

I really dont give a rats.
I find getting the email notifications about them annoying. Would turn that off if I could figure out if that is possible.
I am also a member of what is probably the biggest boating and fishing forum in the world, THT, and they don't have any such buttons and everything seems to go along quite well without them. If they were gone totally from AF it would be fine by me.
i think they can be the cause of more trouble than they are worth.

Absolutely. If you want to make an improvement on Ausfish, piss the 'dislikes' off completely. They allow only negative mystery, often from complete ignorance, that only serves to upset. It has no other contribution. If you don't like a post or a part of a post, say so (ask them a question about it) or go away. Making them appear anonymous only compounds the problem and exacerbates the consequences. Ie it leads to conflict and creates frustration. Dislike my comment here I don't care you know I am right or you are stupid.

I just love the logistical efficiency of a poll, to organise who disagrees, electronically, so that they may be banned rapidly in a multiple format. Very efficient. Congrats!

Very amusing, Pauly. I got a good laugh from that.

Lots of forums have like and dislike activated these days but most of the time I don't use them.
I do sometimes use 'thanks' buttons on forums that have them so that when people are helpful with an issue I've had I can say 'thanks'.

Only 4 people like the changes so far against 26 who don't and 12 who have splinters in their ass.
that's 42 people and the 4 people who voted yes represent less than 2% of the vote. Hardly convincing...........

The part I don't like is in a thread sometimes the same member will lik/thank a part of the thread but there is no way I know which item the member referred to, if the notifications were changed so that the actual item no was included then it would be fine with me (or is it my browser not displaying correctly again). In the end the wind is back again, if it wasn't then the bitching level would drop. :)

If you have posted more than once in a thread and want to know which particular post some one gave you a Thanks/Like/Disagree you can click on the link for that Thank/Like... in your notification centre. It will take you to the actual post.
Yes, a few people seem to be getting cabin fever lately due to the winds

Hey Steve,
Any thoughts on the result of the poll? Might you consider undoing the change?

Judging by the number of votes compared to the number of members that login each day, week, month, it would appear that most people don't care enough to even vote and would rather be out fishing. Similar to the reception/opposition the feature got when it was first introduced. What I have noticed over the past 20 years is that the vast majority of members do not post or help out other members to get a like or thanks, they do it because they want to help.

Steve, I don't think this is quite true as when I do this it takes me to the top of the "page" but not to the actual post, as it is sometimes a day or more before I can get to this site I still don't know who Liked which particular post as there will be several posts Liked on that page.

Have look through previous posts, there is a comment by someone that they had a similar problem. I think it was not working on their iPad but worked on their computer, from memory. I am using my IPhone at the moment as I am out on the bike, otherwise I would look for the post and link to it for you

Thanks Steve, I have done it from 3 different PC's, all running the dreaded IE, I guess I will live with it as the winds look like they are abating, slightly, ever so slightly.
PS: Steve the same penalty applies to texting on your phone while riding the bike as in a car :) take care
