hi all.

was planning a trip to moreton today but the swell was north south so rather than beat up my hull (freshly welded plates all over it) i decided to do peel instead. i started at the houseboat and jigged up some livies before drifting the western artificials. first fish came about 6.30am on a zman curl tail grub in baby bass and went a respectable 55cm. nothing for a while although i was losing a live bait every now and then but with no hook ups. by lunch time the morning crowd had left and i had the place to myself for a while which did absolutely nothing in respect of catching fish. whenever bait was low i would pop back to the houseboat and jig a few more. also managed a few squid switching them from the plastic to a jig which then became live baits. after lunch the afternoon crowd moved in and at about quarter to 3 in the arv the deadstick goes off and up comes a better fish of 67cm. the fish bag is starting to look better. an hour later and the last for the day at 71cm finishes off a good feed. despite all the live baits i had out i caught nothing on them and the 2 good fish were both caught on one of those $2.30 octajig knock offs i bought off ebay...

no crabs bruce
tony, wish i could have posted more reports but with crap weather and a sinking boat, i haven't been out much of late. i think i will be looking for a replacement hull in the next year or i keep putting patches on and in 5 years time i'll have a 5mm plate boat which will have cost me about 20 grand...

Great stuff Dave..love the zmans. Do you rig them weedless? Also had much success on the pearl/white zman?

Me and my old man really need to get one of u guys to come out with us. He's spent untold amounts of money on his fisherman 5.0 and we dont have much to show for it. Biggest snapper goes 45cm caught in the river and it's one of few. It would make his day! Let me know if anyone's keen in January.

Cheers, Scott.

Rewarding sitting out there all day then catching a couple of rippers at the end of the day to make the effort worth while.

Although just being out there is worthwhile enough only making the catch that much better. You've probably started an octijig thing now though!!

i have a v14 brooker but don't hold it against them. it is probably more than 30 years old and i have beaten the crap out of her.

Is the houseboat a well known spot or a secret spot? If it's not would like to know where it is if someone could share a mark......

yep, the houseboat is a well known secret spot... it is within 100m south west of the spit beacon and is easy to spot on your sounder. there is almost always boats there. if this doesn't help, send me a pm and i will send you the mark.

You gotta love those well known secret spots;)

If you wouldn't mind sending the mark if you get a chance that would be great.............am still learning when it comes to the bay so not even a clue where the spit beacon is........
