Was keen to get out to have a look for some spaniards on Saturday..... with the water still cold off the goldy and not wanting to run out off point lookout cause I had my youngfella I decided on Moololaba.
well we got on the water about 4am and headed off to look for some livies.....couldnt find any off the shark nets so headed south keeping an eye on the sounder....heaps of bait all the way down to caloundra but it was only really small stuff......there were birds working over Raper shoal so cast a 40gm raider at them for no interest.
Ended up getting some big Yakkas at the fairway off Caloundra so towed one deep and one on the surface all the way to the 5 mile for nothing. Decided to head back up to the Gneerings and tow them around for a bit.
Not much happening there either until I spotted some fish cruising just under the surface beside the boat. Couldn't make out what they were but threw a 40gm raider at them on my 10lb spin gear and got hammered instantly!..... 1/2 the spool of line was off the reel in no time and I was starting to worry.... Had to wake the youngfella up to help clear the lines so I could start chasing this fish....by the time all the lines were clear I was down to the last of the braid on the spool....but managed to get it under control.... still wasnt sure what i had hooked at this stage until the circles started.....then I knew it was a Tuna...ten minutes later I had colour and was surprised to see a nice Yellowfin....the young fella did an outstanding effort netting it...
Rest of the day was pretty uneventful apart from a small Spaniard following in a Deadbait I was winding in to check.....dropped it back to him but he wasnt interested....trolled that area for a bit but had no interest at all.....
water was still fairly green and cold up there....by lunch it was just reaching 24deg.
Heaps of Tuna between Point Cartright and the Gneerings on the way back but they were very boat shy....
Hopefully the weather plays the game this weekend for a run out to Loookout for a troll...
