Been a while I know :-D
Got caught up in the storms at Maroochydore yesterday so didn’t get out for a fish. I did get an opportunity today however. Loaded up the yak and hit the passage at around 10am. There was a bit of an easterly blowing and the tide was just at the top and beginning to turn. I decided to get right in tight to the mangroves flicking a 3 inch gulp minnow around on a 1/12th oz jighead. I also had a sleeper out the back rigged weedless. It had a 4 inch Zman culr tail in pearl. I had loaded up the belly with S Factor hoping to drift by a big mumma and score a nice flatty.
1st fish in the yak was a bream, gave a good little fight too for his size :-D There followed a steady stream of flattys on the gulps. The Zman never got another touch. I ended up pulling 7 flattys over the side of the yak in the next few hours. All caught in tight to the mangroves. Best on went around 50cm and he came home for dinner. All the rest were released. I did miss quite a few fish. Seemed they were not taking the placcie in their mouth as quickly as usual. I found myself slowly counting to 5 after feeling the first tap. This seemed to improve my hook up ratio.
Was nice to be out on the water again and actually landing a few.
