Are they suitable for sandcrabs on a quicker pick up time ?

Yes I got 4 and they would do the job if you only wanted to go out for a short time.

I got 11 of these, they work well, takes a lot to get the right time between pull ups right but once you get that part sorted they catch really well...u need to have plenty of fresh bait with them I have found...work best on slack running tides...better for muddies than sandies although they catch sandies ok as well

I only use that type for sandies these days. Basically a run of 8 lift dillies I check each one every fifteen minutes, do a check of the string then idle back to the first pot again and start again. If the crabs are around they will find the bait within about 3 minutes.

Interesting I have 11 two.
Well I have none YET.
I have lost 5 normal pots in my last 3 trips , so I can justify some new ones now.

hi guys
I have read a few posts on these as I was also thinking of going to these due to losses. My question is when/where cant they be used? I think that anywhere there is reasonable current (I think this is what Rosco is inferring) it will either move it , tip it over due to float and line drag. will it actually stay sitting flat on bottom or slightly lift up and then crab would not be able to get in/on?
cheers

my dad(r.i.p. long ago) used to buy 100/200? yards reels of green cord , used with a special? sowing thingo (wrapped heaps of cord in middle of thingo?)....tie simple non-slip knot for meshsize....and eventually the loops then slipped on to a "single" hoop...
[note: he had a few extra outside diameter loop-levels to be wider than the 3ft? ring]
(wire-loop ends then joined together with simple pushfit plastic airpipe tubing)
this gave a simple , but effective when "pulled" , auto slackness dropdown ....i.e. net centre was below the "single ring" ~ 6-12"
(hopefully with legal Muddie BUCK..."food of the GODS!!") :2thumbsup:
p.s. strange but very true , 2day is/was me dads bday :birthdays:
Enjoy
