Just bought a Tohatsu 2003 2 stroke in beaut condition, electric start.

Just can't seem to sort the tilt of the motor out, so can someone help me with.

When you lift the motor right up, is it meant to lock itself into that position?

This assembly is either not adjusted properly as it seems it should just lock into the full uplift position without you needing to grapple with the lever.

Then when you lower it to the shallow water position it should lock itself in as well to that slot?

Help would be appreciated from a Tohatsu experienced person :)

Thanks in advance

With my limited amount of experience, I have found you lift the motor to max height, activate a lever and lower the motor into the locked position. Reverse the operation to lower.
When the motor is in the lowered position in the water, in neutral you can lift it, whilst in forward gear it is not locked as a safety feature in case you hit a log etc it will lift and prevent damage. When in reverse it does lock in to prevent the motor from flying up out of the water.

pretty sure mine is leaver down(unlocked) you can lift each notch to full tilt but cant go down ...so when you have it full/part tilted tilt you flip the leaver to locked (leaver up) you lift and lower all the way down and it locks in position...

Got twin 30's tohatsu on my sons boat. As far as I can remember he has two positions and in each case you have to roll the lever over. Have a look and get back to you

I got the tilt sorted. I had to adjust the tilt lever and spring and now when you lift it to full tilt it automatically drops into the slots provided to stay up without having to touch the lever . Now just one action. Lower the lever to set in unlock mode, then just lift it up and it sets itself to stay up

Cheers
