The weather forecast was not too windy and it was a sunny day so I took my boy Ronnie and his little buddy Angus, brother Jed and dad David to Moreton sandhills for a whiting fish.
Trip across the bay was flatstrap to suit the conditions and arrival was very calm.

The boys did what boys normally do once you get to a spot and that was firstly to mark their territory and then tuck into some chips etc :)
96229
Ronnies buddy Angus drew first fish and was a happy chappie

Ronnie stuck to the task and was rewarded next whilst little Jed waited for his dad to hook him a fish

Jed's dad finally hooked him a fish and together they pulled it to the surface and it was a . . . . . piece of weed :'( Tears followed - how could life be so cruel

Ronnie stuck at the task and was rewarded with fish number two and then fish number three and it was "dad aren't I a good fisherman?" "yes son" and "dad are you proud of me?" "yes son" :)

Finally Jed scores a fish and the biggest one to gain the biggest smile along with it

The boys were happy with this lot so we were off to the Tanga wrecks to let them splash and jump about and cook up some sausages then watch them ride boogie boards from the top of the sandhills to the base - scarey stuff :o. Then a walk through the resort for a looksee and some lollies at their shops to watch sunset from the resort.

Then a dark trip back across the bay. It was a bit bumpy but not too bad - we sat on 30kph and I had Ronnie on the seat between my legs and the boys with dad David looking after them whilst they exaggerated how tragic the trip was. All in all a great father and son outing on the bay :D9624696247
Ronnie can be proud that he supplied us with lunch on Sunday ;)

Guys, those of you that know Ronnie will know that he hasn't been given an easy life as he was diagnosed with cancer in the kidney at 6yo and it was removed but relapsed last year when he 7yo with 6 tumors in the lungs and they cut 10% of his lungs away, sadly the cancer has relapsed as of 4 weeks ago outside his lung and attached to the heart arteries and is inoperable. As of Thursday he has just completed 15 daily sessions of radiation to the tumor - he has been battling this for nearly three years now.
With the first cancer he was given 80% chance of survival. With the first relapse he was given a 50% chance and with this latest relapse a couple of percent chance of survival such that the oncologist is prepared to cease any treatment and just do palliative care.
Does that boy in the pictures look like he has a tumour squashing his heart?
He has so much life in him and for us every day is a "gift" and we live in the "present".
This week he goes to school normal like every other kid.
Friday we go for a week holiday up the coast.
In a couple of weeks father and son camping for five days.
Every day so precious!
BTW guys - please know I am not seeking sympathy here - I just enjoy the here and now and hang onto it like liquid gold in my hands and heart.

Nice one Trev
My wife and I are both nurses and know exactly what you mean by treasure every day. I have seen so many bad things happen to good people I have lost count. Your story should aid those out there that pursue materialistic goals in life that when the shit hits the fan as it does and will, you cannot buy back that time you wasted drooling over that 50inch TV. So get out there and throw yourself into family life and have no regrets later.

Trev
Glad you had a great day with your young fella and his mates. You are so right, in that every day should be cherished and don't worry about the peripheral stuff in life.

Thanks for sharing. No wonder you are so proud of him.
We are fortunate that we have such a beautiful bay we can take out loved ones into and they can have such a ripper time.
Hope you have many many more.

Trev I am off on Connect camp tomorrow with 12 'at risk' yr 6 and 7 primary school boys (from just near you) heading down the Brissy River again. I never know exactly why they have been chosen but each has their own story and I always try to make a difference in their lives as you never know the good things you can sow and what lies ahead for each one. Every time I think of it I will pray for Ronnie and when I return I will pray some more. I went down this path with my Sister many years ago as she lost her Kidneys. I know you are a strong and resilient bloke but if there's anything I can do for you in any way please just ask and I am there and you can count on it. Mal

Your kids are the biggest investment you can ever sink your time into bar none. It's when they are sick but still pay you back with interest during good times like this that makes being a Dad the best of any of life's rewards. Thanks for sharing Trev, hope to see you on the water being out fished by Ronnie many more trips yet!
