hi all. up at 2.30 am yesterday and stuck the head outside for a very local weather check which looked good. half hour later at the servo and i was reconsidering:-?. decided maybe just hide behind green for a while and see what happens. fished till just after daylight with stinky stuff for 1 big catfish and 1 unknown run that missed the hook. with the wind dropping i decided to abandon green and the stinky stuff and make the run to mud. drifted the eastern side for a few hours for nought before heading for the nw side of the island which by now had a reasonable swell and no boat activity at all. found a large bait ball and set the first drift and had 2 small snaps on the deadstick in no time at all. moved a bit further off for nought for a while again before spotting some bird activity back where i started. went a gave it another drift and again the deadstick did all the hard work and i was happy to wind in a 65cm fish and call it quits. it was 11.30am by now. as a bonus i spotted a surface bust up on the way back and flicked the plastic for a 37cm tailor which went in the box for a little extra variety. the wind sprang up very quickly on the way back and i was glad i decided to leave when i did or i would have been slow trolling the whole way back.

The good old deadstick comes through again. It certainly seems to me to be at least as effective as a worked presentation especially when there is a bit of chop or swell
