Well it was the only day that looked like half a chance to catch a fish. I was liking the clouds and hoping they would stick around for sunday but no rain.. I know wishful thinking... So at the ramp a little earlier than I advised my deckie I would be there. I threw the tinny in the water as I finished off my muesli bar driving up I spotted my deckie though last time I saw this guy was over at Mud Island as he was t-boned by a jet-ski. Don't get me started on how the guy hit him as we were hoping for a better result and hopefully he might be able to raise a scale or two himself off mud.
So slowly I poked along in the tinny through the dark as I often take care of the debris sometimes still floating around the river. So out past the mouth and you can finally see that it isn't looking too bad plenty of cover and a rain cloud off in the distance over moreton island. Arriver at mud and tell him he has to use my plastics as I don't want any excuses if I catch some and he does not, I won't be having that so threw him the trusty Dayoo deadly combo, one for the dead stick and one for the flick stick. Off we go on the drift as there is a little breeze but keeping the water a little choppy often keeps the squire on the chew.
First few drifts and there is a little interest with bait on the sounder and also got signs. As I get in close to the boat I get a nice hit and she has a little tussle and up comes a nice squire around the 39's, get that in the esky and not long after the ol'deadstick buckles over peeling line off the little SOL ZZZZZZzzzzzzz Woah! Ummm lines on Jesse we might have to chase this one.. so as he gets the lines in I start the engine... by this time gathering back some ground as it took a big run on the 10lb bream gear. Putt over on the boat and manage to see a flash of colour.. yep nice fish. So it takes a few more short runs at the boat as I have light gear I take it easy and she gets netted. Nice 62 on the money. So I have 2 in the box and looking to Jesse asking for some help on the fish. He isn't sure what is going on then on the drop he gets cracked by a nice little squire tussling with his fish he gets it close to the boat... ohhhh she'll be close on legal.. ZZZZZzzzzzzzz Ohhh crap the dead stick goes off, I reach over and pull it out of the holder as I net the squire on his other rod, hand him the dead stick and it goes for a nice run on his 6lb combo. I get his first fish on the ruler and she is just under so back in the drink and get ready for his next one... A nice fight and up comes a squire 46 on the stick so in the box she goes. Few more squire on the flick sticks that were in the 38-42 mark so we ended up with 5 keepers.
The weather pretty much dropped out so it was flat sailing all the way home to the river and the ramp to clean up some fish. So Jesse with 2 keepers, myself 3 and all best fish on the dead sticks.
Great morning out on the water, not a drop of rain and every kid won a prize.
