Fished North Pine yesterday with two other mates for the Pirtek fishing comp. Beautiful day on the water, made it home and cleaned the boat - just in time to doge that storm!
The fishing was very standard - we scored nothing on plastics, had a 50-55 cm flathead boatside only to have him cut the 4lb leader. Apart from that, a handful of undersize bream on bait. SPoke with a couple of other boats, they had similiar results.
Threw the pots in for a soak (among with 50 odd other traps) and somehow managed to take two beautiful big bucks home. Threw back 4 jennies.
On a side note:
After being brought up in NSW (i.e. keeping any legal crab caught), it was a shock to the system when I started crabbing up here - initially, having to return massive jennies back to the water was torture! But I have to say, after going crabbing several times and seeing how healthy the stocks are (despite the pressure placed on them) I 100% support and prefer QLD's crab rules to NSW.
NSW really needs to catch up and get with the program - not just with the "buck's only" rules, but also with the banning of witches hat-style nets. The crabs don't get nearly as injured when releasing them from traps.
