Anybody use the 2010 saltigas for offshore jigging? How do you rate them and have you encountered any problems? The previous 2001 models had issues re the roller bearing and reel stem with reports of breakages. I thinking about getting one but unsure of size. The choice will be between the 4000, 5000 or 6500. Looking to load it up with 300-400m of 50lb braid including some backing. Will be chasing xos kingfish in 80+ metres. Most importantly, it cant be too heavy cos i will be jigging with it for most of the day.

They r good mate you should have no dramas the 6500 will land just about everything. As for weight I don't know anyone who can jig high speed metals all day go the 6500
While your looking at the Saltiga checkout the Catalina aswell.........You'll save enough on the reel to go towards a rod to suit.

The 6500 is a big reel. personally i would go the 5000. it will fit PE5 on it nicely. and the drag is enough still in the 5000.
the 6500 is great to jig with but you will struggle to get a whole day and you would more be running PE8-10 or 100lb line on it but the 30kg's of drag will stop almost anything if you can hold onto it. either way your getting a good reel.

Cheers boys. Appreciate the input. I'm leaning towards the 5000. It has the capacity I require without the extra weight and with 15kg of drag, that should be enough to stop those 15kg+ ambos and kingies I sometimes encounter

I think your taking a knife to a gun fight with the 5000

I have the Saltiga 5000 and the 6500. Haven't used them a lot for jigging, but both are fantastic reels. The 6500 is a big reel, and should be used strictly for PE8 only. Nothing has been on the end of the 6500 that hasn't been skull-dragged to the boat.
Like Dan said, look at the Catalina - should save a good bit a coin. Same drag, drive train, just a little less bling for a lot less money.
Cheers,
Ben

Cheers Ben. Will be using 50lb so i guess the 6500 is probably unnecessary. I checked out the catalinas. Certainly looks good but i always wanted to own a saltiga
