View Full Version : Powerpro knot issues

Used powerpro 10lb for the first time today (I usually use fins), had major issues with the leader/jig and placcy flying off! Lost 4 in a short space of time, one casting, one snag, one fish?, one just hooking the leader to the hook keeper!
I was using quality Japanese flouro and tried a couple of brands to make sure it wasn't the leader material.
I use a Bimini double and 15 turn yuccatan to join the leader....the leader seemed to come undone on the one I found....the braid feels really cutty, I didn't feel my knots were pulling up as tight as with the fins....any thoughts?
1) would a different knot be a better option? (slim beauty perhaps)
2) anyone had similar issues with powerpro?
It's certainly strong enough but doesn't seem to make a good knot onto the leader, I have used 15 turn yuccatan for years with fins without my issues....
I may re-spool with fins but seems a shame as this stuff is brand new.
Cheers

PP 10lb yellow, slim beauty 10 turn, Berkly Vanish 6-8 lb, no problems here.
Recently changed from old Fireline that lost it's bite.

I use 10lb braid PP to 12lb flouro leader. Double uni, never have had a problem. I do 9 twists on the braid and 7 on he leader.
So far I have found the number of twists has a big impact on knot hold and if it will cut into itself. Eg. I use 6lb Nanofil and 8lb leader. Optimum double uni has 11 twists for the braid and 7 on the leader.
Hope this helps.

With line that light, a Double Uni for sure.

If you are getting your leader nipped off by the braid, double the braid over and tie with the two thicknesses for your normal knot. Those extra turns of braid from the double cushions the braid from cutting your leader as fast.
Double unis are a decent knot, not one that I use now, but it is a decent knot. Doubled Blood knot yields better strength but more effort required to tie.
I use a different knot again I am yet to fail.

albright knot still works for me, not sure about bimini double etc, for a 10lb rig, sounds like hell to tie when yr out and about.
I use albright, usually 10 or 8 truns up and 3 or 4 down, pull it into place slowly then increase the pressure, you can often jerk the line to test it, which I do though it often breaks doing that.
Try an 8 turn albright, I find if you go simple you get a feel for it after a while.
You will get a better albright or slim beuty with using less turns on the way back and I find strength is still good (8-10 up--- 3-4 back).
As for power pro or fins, I kinda like microfuse, it seems pretty decent all rounder.
Don't want you to waste money but if it keeps happening it could be a dud spool (from factory), in the past I have had stuff like that happen to me and was never sure but when I changed the problem disappeared, so I assumed it was a dud batch.

I've never had a problem since I started using the uni. Incredibly strong. I use a different type for braid to leader. But I can't remember what it's called. Clinton at tackle world showed me it. It's a alot slimmer than a double uni. But I use uni to hook

I use an fg knot on all light line and a pr knot on 50lb. These knots are the only ones that will go through the runners without problems.I use the pr knot on 130lb varivas for gt fishing. Uni knot for tying on hooks.
