Arrived at Deep Water Bend ramp at 6.00 this morning to find that the car park was totally empty - and it wasn't pouring all that hard! Ran up the Pine looking for some bait prawns. Found a patch and worked them for a couple of hours, but was constantly annoyed by stacks of small bony bream clogging the net. Ended up with 2.4kg of medium size greasies - enough bait for a couple of months. Got back to the ramp to find one other trailer there. At least someone else isn't scared of a bit of rain - or is just as mad as I am!

Where was everybody? Envying you. Some of us still have to work unfortunately
These weren't greasies and weren't caught in the pine. These were captured in the southern bay. and excellent size for Feb. Found them midway throught the dropping tide and worked them until i had nearly a bucket. Then called my best mate Keeken and he came and joined in the carnage. A couple of tigers each, but nearly all bananas. And the odd one had the familiar green strip on its spine. Great eating .
My guts are bloated, tonight!. All that beer and prawns, and my missus doesn't like neither. How fortunate am I?
Ok, Heres two photos.

well done freeeedom, great looking lot of bait there. Strange how they all look to be greasies, any decent bananas at all?

Mangrove rat - quite a long way up!
Pero - half your luck. From the reports on Ausfish it seems that the bananas always start a lot earlier in the estuaries of the southern bay than they do for the northern bay.
Kingcray - about 3 small bananas in the whole catch!

After packing up camp at Iluka over the weekend, I no longer had a single piece of dry clothing. In fact, there was a thin layer of green mould growing behind my ears! Looks like there will be a bit of wind to contend with over the next few days, but then I will be back in business. Glad to see there are still some committed fishermen around
