Just a quick note to say the river has cleaned up pretty quickly with lots of bait fish etc around the wharves , the jellies are back but hardly close to the numbers pre floods. just the odd 1 or three scattered around , caught a solid 1kg taylor on a lure two nights ago on my second cast but that was it. only had four cast`s and back to work. there is still the odd log or two but they are few and far between now.visibility is getting better also, with about 1m viz on the run in. happy fishing.

We went out sunday and there was good bait around the mouth of the river near the top end of the reclaimed land. we were lucky enough to see two ( i think) bull sharks come clear out the water spinning all the while. they would have been 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 foot and i was thinking either would have made a bit of a mess had they landed in the boat. i guess they wouldn't be there without something to eat.
Anyway pretty impressive

Hey Micksta ,Last summer I was just finishing telling a workmate about bullies jumping and it was like it was meant to be ...... a solid bully jumped clear , spinning and splashed down right in front of us.My mate still talkes about it lol.

Thanks fishguts. I had a bit of a look around out there today and eventually found some fish on the sounder but found it very hard to fish because of the howling wind. Got a small jew on a plastic though so it's looking promising! Ben

Went back for another look after finding a nice show yesterday and managed some more jewies but all were 60-70. Still had some fun though! Ben

Yeah not far away now , just need this rain to stop so I can get into it. just had to take back the cheap Chinese bearings they give you with new hubs/disc`s and get the good jap ones ,so new disc`s , bearings and I`ve just had all new upholstery done so it will be like a new rig when I finally get back out there. itching to get out........ http://www.ozbmx.com.au/public/style_emoticons/default/diablo_mini.gif

thought I`d update this after the last downpours, and with Wivenhoe open the river is back to a rich chocolate mix with plenty of debris , some as big as powerpoles! all on their way out into the bay ,( my good mate snapped his prop in the bay friday on a mystery object) current heading out on the incoming tide and although it looks filthy , as the big ships leave the river with their prop churning the clean clearer salt water can be seen forming a big trail behind the ships , the filthy stuff is only a couple of meters on top.A big pod of bottlenose came up river today chasing bait and going a bit silly , put on a great show jumping and racing through the water. anyways a bit of info for those interested. cheers

I can't wait for Easter. I'm heading down to Brisbane because I want to try catch my first ever Threadfin Salmon. I hear Brisbane is the place to target these fish. Apparently they used to be once found around where I live here near Yeppoon, but the most consistent fishery is now the Brisbane River.

Pretty sure the thready population has been dicimated somewhat due to the fact they do not release well and if they do it takes a lot of work and I also heard a true more that before chrissy the pro`s netted over 300 kg in one swoop! might be crapola but hey wtf.
anyways life goes on and so does the river......... which has cleaned up considerably over the last three days , not sure if wivenhoe is still releasing but the moggil ferry is back up and running so I`m thinking the dam has slowed up or stopped letting out.
the dolphins I mentioned the other day came down the river on Wednesday and it looked like the same pod , maybe they have gotten rid of their cling-ons or had enough of a feed and it`s time to go back out in the bay .
I tried to go out on Friday and apart from upsetting the lord mayor of cabbage tree creek by putting my 1 only crab pot close to his....... (about 30ft away) I had no gps and sounder........ took me a while but the fuse holder had corrosion on the ends that touch the fuse . all sorted now and if this wind keeps up i`ll be up the river real soon. cheers and beers. Andrew
