How big do they grow in our waters?

but 6-10 years 2.5m in length!! in usa. cant see there would be much difference in our resource rich waters. very fast growth.

Had a nsw record denied in early mid 80's on 10kg (line tested over) went 36.5. Didnt matter anyway coz very next season someone jagged a 44kg monster on 10.
As far as i know the 8kg class aust record is still wide open. When the next hoodoo is on in your area grab an 8kg if u can coz its only mid 20kg ish i think.
That thing in the picture is just a bloody freak. Had no idea they even got close to that.
Imagine the teeth on that sucker...get someone else to get the lure out of its gob.
30 yrs ago everyone said it was only a mater of time before a 50kg hoo was weighed in NSW. Still never happened as far as i know. Close tho.
Thats one thing we Do get off Syd esp with the concentration of boats...always the odd big wahoo around but invariably dragging 200lb+ mono trace for beakies so i;m guessing plenty of 50-60kg fish have been dropped. Worth pulling a slightly smaller skirt on wire in closer just where the bubbles finish on 8kg. If you can pour water on a reel there's a 30-40kg record there for the taking i reckon.
Maybe they just dont get that big in aust waters. They get monsters regularly thru the Pac Islands though that they dont bother weighing.

I think they get a few good ones up off Cairns/Cooktown during the giant black season but on 130lb gear they pretty much skull drag them in.

thats a bloody monster hoo!! I remeber mark berg doin a dvd up with nomad testing all that okuma gear, and pretty sure the biggest one they pulled was 48kg or close to that . was a great dvd just for the wahoo literally hundreds under the boat.

I asked my boss whos a pro fisho on the gold coast, he said the biggest he's heard of was 67kg from the nine mile about 12 years ago. He's not the kind of guy to stretch the truth too much.

When you mention that testing with Nomad, was that on their 36 Blackwatch?
