Pfleuger Salt 040

Hi Guys,
Just a quick report on the Pfleuger Salt 040.
I purchased one about 10 weeks back and stripped it down from new and greased and oiled it with marine grade lubricant.
Spooled it up with 6kg braid and used it in salt water 6 times.
I took it out today and it felt quite notchy so I stripped it down when I got back.
Everything was fine apart from the anti reverse and mainshaft bearing. Both of them had rusted quite badly and it was affecting their performance.
cleaned them up and soaked the anti reverse with silicone spray and hit the bearing with some marine gearbox oil and and it freed up okay.

The packaging said it had stainless steel bearings but I doubt that.
Made in china so I reckon it will probably be the same as the Penn 950ssm and have low quality hardware.

You are not having a good run.But the reel is getting quite wet.I would have thought the Pfleuger Salt would stand up to all that.

Perhaps one of the new Spinfishers would do OK. They are supposed to be pretty water resistant

Yeah guys,
I use it on my yak but bag it while travelling and I have not submersed it in salt water at all but its a nice feeling reel and you tend to notice if anything changes and I could feel the reel getting a little tighter to spin when I get it out for a fish .
Some of the malaysian made reels are quite good and dont have any rusting but for some reason I always have rust problems with the chinese made reels and I keep them well maintained, maybe its me:)
I had a nice little Im7 rod with a medium price range Jarvis Walker spinning reel that Katrina uses and I reckon the bearings will be rusting in that reel soon too. Her brother cast it when we were out in my boat yesterday and it slipped outa his hands. Didnt mind losing the reel but the rod was nice. Got 6 nice muddies but I think it wasnt a good exchange.
