G'day lads,

Anyone been pulling anything out of Harry Atkinson lately? Haven't seen a report on here from there in a while.

The weather looks favourable early next week, so I am looking at heading out for a session or two!!

I know mud has been a little slow lately, but Harry's might be worth a look.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Hey AFE666,
Harry's always fishes well ;).
Check out my last few posts.
You need to sound around and find the fish. They are very patchy but once you find them, you really find them. I think we have pulled a 70 or 80cm plus snap nearly every trip. All I can say is fish light. 10lb - 15lb braid is the heaviest I fish although I might get smashed a couple times each trip I also get the bites :). Good luck and might see you out there. Think I am heading out myself in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks mate,

Yeah I fish light also. I do have a 5000 sustain FG in the boat with a 6-10kg rod if things heat up and that is the heaviest rig I own.. Usually run 2/3-6kg with 2500 reel.

Are you anchoring up when You find the fish or drifting over the mark??

Bit of both, depends on the wind and current. I would say I mainly anchor thought as i have I minn Kota ipilot and can spot lock. It does the job superbly and don't think I would land anywhere the amount of fish I do without it. Worth every penny !!
I also have the sustain as a back up. For some reason can't get a hook up on it. I have spooled it with 15lb super PE but it is like rope. Might re spool with 10lb daiwa tournament. Should be right then.
Daiwa certates all the way. Good luck and tight lines.

Ok a quick few thoughts on how i fish the local artificals. ( I am no guru ) Persistence is the key with Harry's / moreton bay artificials. it's all about feel. I have fished there for the past 2-3 years and only on the past year to 18 months have I hit the grove. I pretty much hit the fish every time now but if you asked how, I wouldn't be able to say how or why. Absolutely no real secrets but fish light. My biggest snapp was on 10lb braid (86cm) I fish both plastics and bait with a 50/50 success rate. My biggest is on plastic but more regularly on bait. Hard to say. I tend to work the area hard by shuffling around but don't loose faith because at some point in time the spot will light up. If you are catching little squire, there will be big ones hanging around. If you are catching nothing then move. Fish either side of any tide high or low. 1/4 to 1/2 once and hold on once you hook up. Good luck to all and fish wisely to ensure sustainability. I really think one or two big fish is all anyone could ever need. I have never taken more than two biggies and just know there will be more next time.
Best of luck to all.
