Headed out this morning at 4:30am with my mate from Melbourne. Ippy Mick was out in the same spot with his young fella again. Old mate with the non floating yak didn't attend:-?
Very similar tides and winds however a completely different result. 1 bream for the first few hours was all we managed. Decided to head over towards the weed beds near Bells and finally hooked up to a nice fat flatty. The big girl went 68cms but very weighty. I didn’t have a brag mat so paddled the 500 oddmeters back to Micks boat and he kindly threw it on the brag mat for me.
Headed back over the weed for a while longer but once I scored a toady I said bugger it!!
No more fishing till next weekend now.:'(
Edit: the big girl went back to breed some more for next time

Cheers Kingcray, I got no idea what the hell it is to tell the truth mate ;) I call anything that looks horrid a toady.

Looks like a stargazer to me too, although ugly, apparently pretty tasty. Plenty of tasty meat off the flatty anyway.
I've only caught 1 and I let it go too (didn't know what it was at the time).

Cheers mate. She gave a very good account of herself on 6lb line. A lot of fun and yeah she had the yak in tow a bit. Was great to see her swim off after the pics:thumbsup:

It is satisfying to see a big girl swim off that is for sure.
Funchy, don't believe the buggers who are trying to convince you that toady is a stargazer ;) ...they are just jealous of your fishing skills and are trying to bump you off by getting you to poison your self.

Great fat flathead that. Obviously it's been eating more poddies than squidgies.
That toady is definitely a stargazer though. Great eating but GOT TWINS is right about the internal organs, try not to punchure them.
You also want to stay away from their gills. There're not sharp but have a habit of closing on your fingers and not letting go.

Yeah - Stargazer for sure. More head than fillet, but has the softest and sweetest flesh you'll ever taste. Probably because it's very unfit, rarely does any exercise, just sits buried in the sand waiting for its next meal to come along. Bit like me really! I wonder how it holds a stubby!
