Feeding yabbies

Ok guys...what do saltwater yabbies eat?....My reason for asking is I will be wanting to keep some alive at home for extended periods so as well as an aerator, what can I feed them?

I would like to have them on demand & not have to wait for the right tide to pump.... as when I get home from work & it is a full tide at dusk etc.

Any advise please.:-?

I have looked and looked and found nothing on what you feed them. I have found this bit of info that might help. Everyone is of the opinion they won't keep for more than a week or so.
with nippers if you take a 20L container with a screwed lid like a petrol tank which has not been used fill it up with salt water.
Get yourself a flat container no higher than a few inches and also bring some sand home about 10L and half fill the flat container with sand and the other
half with salt water say around 3 inches above the sand,as the sand holds
salt crystals it will keep the ph levels last alot longer also you have to have
some form of oxygen in the water and a airrator is no dought the best solution
and are not that expensive, shore you can pick a cheap one up for $20 try ebay.
So put the nippers in and cover container with gladwrap to prevent evaperation and put in a cool dark area This should keep them alive for 3
days then drain 2/3rds of water and replace again keep doing that till you use
them. I can not see them living for more than 1,1/2 weeks at the best doing it
that way as the water will loose its alkiline levels over time.
But if i were to give it a go thats what i would be doing and also go to a
aquarium shop and get some advice from them.

You could try small quantities of fish flakes but do not overdose them. too much uneaten food can foul the water. Regular water changes is the key i reckon.

But on the serious side, you wont keep them alive for more then a couple of days, and to do this your going to need plenty of salt water, as the water need to be changed every 10hs or so, othewise they die.
Aerator will also help, but its that change of salt water that will do the best good.
Other wise you'll need to built a mud flat in your back yard, with a tidal flow.:-?
You can wrap in newspaper and freeze, but they usually come out soft when read y to use.

You feed them, they crap, they die quick as it fouls the water.
Lots of air, and water changes, which unless you live near a salt water source is a pain in the proverbial.

I've been experimenting with the sump filter in my marine fish tank. Have 15 yabbies that have lasted 10 weeks now. Don't bother feeding them as they seem to get enough food that drains down from the tank above. A great live food source for the fish above too! 8505985060
