View Full Version : Any Jacks in the Bribie Is canals ?
Hey all
I have a work colleague that has just moved to Bribie Is ...... the lucky bugger is on a canal block :P He has a fairly decent boat for offshore - but needs some help with what is or can be caught around these parts - and so what type of tackle he should invest in :-?
just a question on what you can catch in those canals - atm he is catching some bream & moses perch off his jetty ....... but are jacks a viable target ? - he might look at getting a punt so he can just putt around and have a little fun .
It would be nice to help him out

Nagg, i can't remember who it was but someone was posting last year about Jacks etc from the canals. I will do a bit of a search.

Nagg, plenty of guys mentioning Jacks around the mouths of the canals but I could not find the post I was thinking of. I have no doubt that they are there as the rest of the canal systems from Noosa to the Tweed are Jack magnets

They are there in reasonable numbers but pretty well trained to avoid most lines. It is not just the locals that give them plenty of lip piercings to learn from.
There are some outstanding jacks about though if you look in the right places.

Tell him to throw burley around the jetty on a constant basis. A mate tells me how one of his rellies did this and did fairly well with the jacks.

I am on a canal on bribie. I've caught bream, whiting, flathead, threadfin, grunter bream, trevally, pike eels, shovelnose, string rays, bull sharks, snapper, grassy sweetlip, tailor, Moses perch, green toadfish, pike, long toms and mangrove jacks all from the pontoon.... Plus I've missed a whole bunch of stuff that I haven't been able to stop....
Some great fishing....

He has said that he does and certainly reckons he sees the bait get smashed ......
but hey that sounds like it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a little tinny or punt
Thanks guys

tell me what canal he is living on and when he catches his first jack I will get around there. Hopefully there may be some around my place also this summer.
