844528445184450Finally got to wet a line after a few weekends off due to family duties with children and grand children , headed off for toorbul at 5.30 on what was a beautifull morning weather wise, fish were quite patchy but thats nothing new as ive found this to be my worst season for years flathead wise with quallity fish really scarce, today was my best fish for the year at 59cm, had it gone 60 it would have gone back and i still felt guilty keeping a fish 59 but we have a family dinner coming up and the boys love the way i cook flathead, took a ripper trevally as well that i didnt measure, just enjoyed the fight and let it go, also caught 2 rays the biggest being an eagle ray over 1 metre across the back, i thought it might have been a jew so with 3 kg line i had to start the motor and chase it, hard job try to steer an outboard and wind in patches but i was doing it till i saw the ray, bugger but great fun on light gear, the little diawa sol is a good reel and im an addict to that drag scream, oh and as the weather is warming up it seems like every crab pot on the northside was in the passage, i know people have a right to crab but it can be mind blowing to see the number in the passage at times... so its flathead tonight in batter and a few beers while i watch the mighty rabbitohs belt the dogs, go souths!!!!..
Oh and my favourite plastic of late is the 60mm squidgy fish in the pearl blue colour, very lifelike in the water..
