Hi fellas

I've quickly realised the fish might be a little harder to come by in Brisbane than my home town of Coffs Harbour. I moved up about a month ago and couldnt fit the fishing gear in the first trip, but my old man bought some of it up for me through the week so I decided after reading a few posts to go and have a stab at Newstead park. Dad bought a mixture of gear up with nothing really matching, so I had to mismatch my 2500 stella and a 6kg Nitro rod and got down to throw a few plastics, blades late in the arvo. Tide was high and changing, on sunset, everything was perfect...except there were no fish to be seen. As it got dark I sent a prawn around the bridge pillons for not even a nibble???

Don't have access to a boat up here so my jig rod dad bought up for me isnt gonna be to useful anytime soon but might have an explore over the weekend with the lighter gear. The Fiance has gone home for the weekend so might even try a little road trip to find some fish on the coast.

Any tips let me know?

you will find that the area at Newstead Park fishes best early morning or late at night concide this with a tide change and should produce fish. best baits are live prawns and poddy mullet. should expect to catch good jew fish flathead bream and threadfin salmon. Hope this helps

Yeah best you can do is send a few live prawns out and sit and wait.
Throw a few lures, high and out going tide is not too bad at night time, though in saying that I have caught very little of interest in the river lately (last 9 months).

If the river/inlet of brekie creek is giving you no luck,
Try the walkway to the right of the pontoon, never fished there but would be worth throwing a live prawn out, few flathead and estuary cod have been caught there.
