Bribie Island fishing/camping

Hey guys I am looking at taking the family over to Bribie in the trusty Outlander. Have never driven over there before but looking for a couple of good spots for family camping with young kids. Somewhere close to good beach fishing woud be good too if possible. Thanks for any info, greaty appreciated.

If you're taking the car, then go to Poverty Creek (you'll need a vehicle permit).
If you've got a boat, then go to Mission Pt.
Mission Pt is the pick of the two!

I've not long come back from a week on Bribie with the boys, 10 blokes and four boats. It sounds like you won't to camp I cant comment on that except to say there are many very cheap houses to rent on the surf side (and all over) the island if you felt like some more comfortable digs. Thanks for the replies guys. I do have a 4m tinny which I could take but not sure how the outlander would go getting it on the beach??? Don't need anything fancy for camping just toilets for kids/women. What is the fishing like?

There are toilets at both spots, but if you're chosing Poverty Creek, don't tow the boat into there.
Mission Pt, on the other hand, is only accessable by boat.
Fishing can range from good to dismal, it's a case of right place at the right time for the fish.

Thanks again for the replies, very much appreciated. We are now tossing up between Teewah beach or Bribie. I have been to teewah a couple of times so it is more familiar but what is the general opinion on which place has better fishing/camping?

I have been to both a quite a few times.

Bribie ocean beach is usually calmer and easier fishing for the kids as it is sheltered from Moreton Island in anything but northerly winds. Due to the sheltered nature, gutters do not form as readily on Bribie so fishing can be quite sporadic as the fish congregate in gutters. Camping on Bribie ocean side is set out in defined areas and most camp sites are set back behind the dunes a little. Good for protection from winds but you lose the ocean view. Some of the southerly camp sites do have ocean views but they are further from the showers and toilets which are located at camp area "P".

Teewah Beach is usually better for fishing as there are always plenty of gutters to fish in. You can usually find a close-in gutter as well for the kids to chase whiting. Teewah is more exposed so can get quite blown out in stronger winds though (you can whip around to Rainbow for sheltered fishing if you want). Camping is not set to specific site, you can camp anywhere between 2 points which are some 15km apart. You also have the option of camp sites on Teewah, some are right on the beach front and some are behind dunes protected from the winds.

Both spots have their advantages and disadvantages. Best bet is to try one and then the other and decide what suits you best.
