Trout lures

Gday all, with the nsw trout season just around the corner and my trip to ebor all booked in for the 1st oct, was just wondering whts your must have lure or plastic for rainbow or brown trout?

Tassie Devils, small rapala minnows(trout patterns are good as browns eat other trout) and celtas for flicking around the edges.
Saw some cheap Rapalas on Ebay(small minnows, search: rapala lures trout)

Celtas in red and gold or green and gold. Grab a few of each in different sizes. I grew up near Ebor and never needed to us another lure, did use the fly a bit but only to challenge myself. If the weather is good, high air pressure and chance of a storm than anything will work.

Tassie devils in gold or red. We shaved the sides of them and they swam much better.

We also floated for them- use a very light leader about 4' long on a water float. We used to vaseline our line as well and this made it sit on top of the water. Dragonfly larvae for bait. Also used to rub our hands in the mud first to take any smell away.

Just saying what we used to do and no means will everyone agree.

Celtas and small hard body lures.

As a teenager around the Walcha/Niangala/Woodenbong areas I always used red or blue cletas, no 3 or 2.

Have been back a few times when I get the chance and they still do the trick.

Small HB like the Viking crank minow or SX40 worked slowly/steadily also work.

most of the bream style minnows will work - along with celta's. Soft plastics rigged with a beetle spin are pretty effective as well

Oh yes just thought I would add that it is most probably grass hopper season.
I have seen Browns caught on a very light weightless live grasshopper (small fly hook), floating on the surface, morning and evening.

Tassies for sure, take the metal bit out and run your line straight through the lure then put a lumo bead on then tie directly onto the hook. The lure will swim much better and when the fish gets hooked up the lure will slide up the line and not offer any help to the fish to unhook itself.
