I managed a rare midweeker with my brother Glenn (Cervelo) and decided to head to the area off Pt Lookout in search of a few Dollies and a Snapper or two. We were slow off the mark and frigged around for an hour trying to get enough live bait. By the time we finally set course for the Cathedrals area we heard Macca (The Lump) pulling up stumps because he had already bagged out:o
We started floatlining and started to put a couple of fish onboard but it was slow going with the best fish around 65cm. A short hop west to another mark saw a better class of fish come onboard:D. Glenn decided to give the floatlining pillies a miss and tied on a dodgey looking 6/0 worm hook and impaled a very suspect squid that had been hiding in my freezer for the last 18 months. Before too long he has a big bend in the rod and a nice Snapper hits the deck. Another piece of Squid and another nice Snapper hits the deck. This ones around 75cm:). Meanwhile I have tried livies, plastics and floatlining pillies for nothing.
Glenn sticks on another bit of mummified Squid and before too long the familiar bend in the rod is back only this time it results in a 60cm Pearlie that weighed in at 3.28kg. A top fish for this area;D
A quick trip to the Wave Rider saw a couple of Dollies in the boat but they were skittish due to spearos in the water. We then headed across to the bar at full stick and didn't have to ease back even as we crossed:D. A top day with great weather and a couple of good fish
