Tues Nite fish off red light at Coochie

Decided that the weather looked good for a change so decided to put the boat in at Vikki Point and try off the red light. Managed to get my 4 squire 42-36 a hairtail a bream and a 92cm Jew in a few hours. I have caught snapper and cod at the red but never a Jewey, so it was a nice suprise. I usually fish half pillies but a mate gave me a couple of boxes of Squid to use up. Chopped the squid in half and used a bottom hook of 7/0 and a snooded top hook of 3/0. Used 20lb flurocarbon and 10lb braid. I have been going to put some new line on and this fish almost spooled me. Had about 50m of braid and 50 m of 9lb mono. I thought he was a rubbish fish because there was none of the head banging of the Squire and he hung under the boat. Once I got him closer to the top I saw that bronze plank with irridesent dots and those lumo eyes pass by I was so excited. Was by myself so had to net him with great difficulty. Got him first go with the enviro net but was covered in seawater. The fish had that beautiful stink to it that I have read about many times. Went 6.4 Kilo gutted and gilled.

Thanks guys. Considering its only 5 minutes from the boat ramp it is an exceptional spot. The only thing is that it doesn't always fire. I guess I was there at the change of tide on Dusk and a minor solunar time as well. If the weather forecast is the steady I might go out after dark on Monday night for a few hours. I will see if I can get the photos to work, but I guess everyone has seen so many photos of squire and Jew these days that it loses impact.

That is gold Symetre, well done sharkymark2 I dont fish Coochie often (a few times a year) but when I do I normaly have good results thanks for the report.
