When a name or nick names meaning just bugs you. :-?
Chas meaning and name origin
Chas \
chas\ as a boy's name is a variant of Charles (Old German) and Chaz, and the meaning of Chas is "free man".
Clarry meaning and name origin
Clarry \c-lar
ry, cl(ar)-ry\ as a girl's name is a variant of Claire (Latin), Clara (Latin) and Clarissa (Latin), and the meaning of Clarry is "bright, famous; most bright, most famous".

Lol, thanks for that Gon Fishun :)
Interesting to see a bit about the origin of Chas and Clarry
The thought behind our "fishing" nicknames is:
Tim = "Chas": when we were first fishing together (about 35 years ago!), and for the next 30 years after that, I (ie "Tim") only ever used Alvey reels (I hated threadline reels). Alvey = Charles Alvey (the originator of the brand)...Charles = "Chas"
Trace = "Clarry": again when we were first fishing together Trace only ever used her much loved and unbelievably prolific Jarvis Walker "Clarrence" fishing rod to catch everything from whiting and bream to luderic and tailor. She still has the rod though it is in retirement. Clarrence = "Clarry"
Cheers

Q: So what would you call someone who uses the Jarvis Walker Clarence with an Alvey attached??
A: Smart
They're both legendary bits of fishing gear by the way. 8-)

gone fishun - what is bugging you, you seemed to have solved the puzzle ???
I have a daugter of a friend and her nick name is Tins, her real name is Erin which through several variations (memory fading) ended up being Tin Tin (for some strange reason she saw a TV show when she was about 3 yrs old about Rin Tin Tin and loved the dog) and eventually Tins, some 20 years later I still call her that but some of her newer friends can't work it out.

The boys at the Rocklea fruit markets use to call one of their co-workers "The Judge", that's because he was always sitting on a case.

Don't be pleased if you get called Kero. It's short for Kerosene Lantern.
The thing about a Kero Lantern is that it's dim and has to be carried.
And you need to be sure it's said in jest when you are nicknamed Fulla. :)

Bloke I played footy with who had one arm that finished just past the elbow who was called clock- probably my favourite.

Hahahahah these are awesome... I got a mate called Sledge aka Sledge Hammer i.e Large Tool.
Another mate Roadtrain because when he gets on the turps he is unstoppable and leaves a trail of destruction.
And I guess one for myself. When I was in grade 8 I was mates with this guy who had an older brother at the same school and I went over to his place one night and never had a shower as mum came and picked me up early sunday morning. When I got to school a heap of older kids were calling me Moss, because apparently it was growing behind my ear. Since the inception of my name there has been many other likings to my love of green, me being soft and green and always found near water etc. It's something that has stuck with me and better than other nicknames. It was also a name I used as a Legal Name when painting and doing various commisioned and stencil aerosol art. A couple from the vault....

In the days of Errol Flynn ( a handsome movie star) a few blokes were said to be 'in like Flynn' and that was a good thing for them, but if you got called 'Errol' in the workplace then it meant you _______ everything you went near.

I just "assumed" that Chas & Clarry were 2 gay fisherpersons living together
:lolk: Trace (Clarry) has always said there would be a fair few people on Ausfish who assumed we were an old gay couple :)
We actually frequently joke that although we are "straight" (a rare thing among our siblings!) we do "bend" the gender stereotypes a bit:
Trace spent much of her working life wearing steel toed work-boots in the hardware business being called "mate" by the customers. She is a killer at sport and frequently wipes the floor with hapless young men who think this petite woman will be an easy-beat in soft ball / base ball/ cricket / table tennis / football / volleyball...in fact pretty much any ball sport or physical activity that requires quick reflexes (yep fishing too :) ), and she is always keen to get a dremmel, soldering iron, glazier's grinding wheel or other power tool as a present (the next toy on her wish-list is a "Taurus 3 ringed saw" whatever the f@%k that is :huh2: ).
Tim on the other hand has generally been accepted as "one of the girls" while working as the only male in "female" teams of social workers and counselors...hmmmm and there is also the fact that if anyone in our family is worried about breaking a fingernail it is Tim; not Trace or our daughter! He claims that this is because he needs them for playing finger-style guitar ::).
OK that is enough family secrets out in public now, Trace has some cementing to do and Tim has to finish his embroidery :D

Tim I hope Trace is not too rough on you about the nail thing....
Trace do you want to go for a beer sometime and we can discuss our sheds? Tim and my missus can bake something for us so we can have a feed when we stagger home. :)
Just joshing guys.... Nothing's better than a partner who shares your passions. We all are lucky we love the water.

I truly did cop sh!t about the broken nail thing from everyone in the family...sadly don't play the guitar anymore so it isn't an issue now :) (too many hobbies so something had to give, and I wasn't going to give away flower arranging :P )
