Boat Flooring Options

Hi Lads,

Our boat is due to arrive in a week and one of the things i wanted to sort out was some flooring for the rear deck, marlin board and flybridge area. I saw some boats at our marina that had what looked like cork with some white stripes running through to make it look like strips but it appeared to be one peice that was cut to size.

Does anyone know about this stuff? Where can i get it? Can i buy it by the roll and cut/shape it myself?

I think the stuff you are chasing is called Regupol

Nope not showing up mate.
Might be that imported fake teak decking, trying to remember the name of it.
Plenty of cork floorings around, also might be comcork which is a pretty heavy duty non slip recycled cork, but a bit hard on the bare tootsies for me.
Another possible is seadek...they make a teak look with white stripes as u describe from memory.
Dunno..just throwing names out there for you to look up.

Yes, that is the stuff. I've found a couple of places that do it. Flex Dek and Tek Dek

I have flexiteek on my Kevlacat. Looks great and easy to maintain although not sure on install as it was done during the build of the boat. I know that they cut it to size based on a template that you send to them and then it gets sent to you in a tube to layout and glue down. Not cheap but I like the look and ease of maintenance.

On the negatives, it can get bloody hot under foot in summer, but when it is not in direct sunlight it is not hard on your bare feet like non slip flow coat can be.

Flexi-Teak is about 2/3rds the real teak prices, but on very curved decks can be easier to work with. Preperation is VERY important.
For our refit we seriously considered Flexi-teak, but at the 11th hour decided real teak was the way to go, for various reasons.

i actully found real teak to be cheaper but harder to fit and it goes silver real quick and requires lots of maintenance and adds loads lots of weight onto the boat.

Thanks for all the input guys. From the sounds of it i should look at this stuff over teak, although real teak would be really nice. Any recommendations on the best place to buy this stuff in Aus? Im in W.A but postage is always an option if its over east.

No idea on where to buy, but would suggest trying the Flexiteek agent listed on their website. Would be a good starting point and take it from there.

Another positive for the Flexiteek is it is light and doesn't go grey/silver over time. Any stains and a quick guerny and she is good to go. Anything more substantial and a quick sand fixes most evils.
