IMO the cheap paper seahorse/hawk bait jigs work the best. normally size 8 for me. Hope this helps

For me it depends on the area and the likely size of the baits. Inshore and for the little slimies like you get off Mooloolaba for example, you can't beat the little cheapies. But for the big donkey ones like you get on the shelf off Port Stephens, the more expensive Black Pete type of standard and with a 1/0 hook is the go.

I use cheap crap off E-bay.. I use them once and bin them out of the way..
buy them in lots of 20 and 3 different sizes #6, #8, #10.. sometimes it pays to have a different size.

add a tiny bit of squid on each hook......hardest part is finding the bu$$as lol!
size 6 or 8, cheap works just as well inshore.

Vertico has his own out now, I was catching slimies on them at 2am in the morning at Barwon Banks the other weekend when we got the snapper. Seem to be very good and are tied on a bit heavier line. $2.50 each or 10 for $20

Always struggled getting livies at night, even with some squid etc on the jig? Any pointers?
Cheers.

I also like the Citer bait jigs with heavier mono to help reduce tangles.
I have found that on a dark night yakkas will come up to the back of the boat in the lights to feed in the burley. I have used a landing net to catch them at times.
