Somenew recreational and commercial fishing rules have been in place in the Gulf ofCarpentaria since the end of last year. These changes include:
Size limit for barramundi has been reduced from 60 cm to 58 cm
Bag limit for giant queenfish has changed to 5 per person
Bag limit for black jewfish has been reduced from five to two, but there is now no maximum legal size for the species
Reduction of the bag limit for golden snapper, from 10 to five
Fillet length for barred (spotted grunter) has changed to 40 min (whole or partially processed length) or 26 min (fillet length), and a bag limit of 10 whole fish or 20 fillets
A barramundi closure will be in place in the Gulf from midday 7 October to midday 1 February every year. Possession on boats at sea will be allowed until midday 17 October.
