What a great holiday weekend, got the boat out 4 straight days! The highlight of the weekend was catching my first Spotty Mackeral, he went 81cm to the tip.
We were on our way back from East Peel and came across a small school busting up and attracting a few birds, did a few wide arcing circles until we got the angle right and drifted down on them to within 30 meters, cast a 70mm raider into the mix and was on instantly! First time I have hooked up with something in the bay that made drag scream like that - unforgettable.
Here are a few pics of the prize - note the close up shot you can see a tiny bait fish sticking out of his gob, found that there when I got him home.

Mate,
Well done. The mackeral have been very elusive up off Noosa this season, with not many being taken, but what has been caught have been good quality. 81cm is a good size for a spotty too. You've gotta love the scream of drag going nuts!

Well done mate. It sure is addictive. I've been thinking of not much else since catching my first spanyard the other year.
Be careful though, cause being obsessive about catching "more macks" often means you forget to target other species which are also good to chew.

thanks for all the comments fellas, the hardest part has been deciding on the best recipe for spotted macks - after a lot of consideration i think the grilled mack sandwich with salt pepper a dash of lemon on a toasted roll with tartar lettuce and tomato (washed down with a beer) goes down as the winner.
