Launched at Clontarf at 5.30 this morning hoping to get a few squire outside the Woody Point green zone. Unfortunately the 'lighter winds inshore early' forecast wasn't light enough for me, so I ran over into the Pine and grabbed a few live baits in the cast net, then settled down to fish the Redcliffe bridges in the hope of finding a few lizards. The bite was steady without ever being spectacular. Took me until 10.30 before I got my fifth, with one going 60cm and a couple more about 50. As well I'd managed 7 reasonable bream and only had to release 2 undersize lizards, 3 undersize bream and one shovel nosed shark - that's a big improvement on what I've been getting there lately.
Amazingly not a single other boat appeared until about 9.30, when two came down, anchored for about 10 minutes and then disappeared up-river again. Ended up quite a nice morning with the shallow banks across the low tide moderating the chop and making it quite comfortable.

Well done mate. Very nice feed indeed. Went out this morning myself for 4 flattys. Only one keeper.

Nice catch Freeeedom, did you find any prawns or were they taken on herring?
Work has stopped my fishing for a while, but might see you out there after the Easter madness.

Just bycatch at this stage Peter. I was targeting lizards specifically using bigger baits than I would normally use for bream. My bream fishing in the Pine tends to tail off from now on as I prefer to chase the winter fish in more exciting locations.

The best of the live baits were small poddy mullet and winter whiting Dave. I did get some herring but they were very large and nothing would touch them. The bream and some of the flathead took large prawn baits (frozen) but I used up the last packet from the ones we caught in October. I did manage to put the net over a school of prawns at one stage - they were jumping all over the place on the surface, but by the time I brought the net in they had all escaped through the mesh they were so tiny. I ended up with one prawn!
