Hi All,
Hoping someone has done this and can advise?
We're off camping for the easter weekend and I wanted to put some dry ice in the Ice Kool Ice Box (The blue one from Eva Kool), but was told not to when I bought it?
We'll be gone for 5 days, last year the frozen bottles didn't last despite cooling it down the day before leaving and putting only frozen things in.
What damage will the dry ice do? Can you wrap it in paper to protect the ice box?
Thanks for any input
Cheers
Troy

I cannot see it being a Problem as your Dry ice should alaways be wrapped in paper, Nothing should ever come in direct contact with it.
But i would double check with the manufacturer of the Esky first.

yep, wrap it in paper, and keep it ABOVE the bottom, otherwise if you have other ice melting and the melt comes into contact with the dry ice, the dry ice will dissapear pretty quick.
last year i bought a 15kg block, they wrapped it in newspaper and i further wrapped it in a garbage bag. placed pre-frozen marinated steaks and sausages in individual bags and tucked them under the block. next to the dry ice was a couple 2L ice-cream containers frozen water, for drinks and other stuff. poured 1 bag of party ice over the lot and still had fully frozen meat on day 6.
70L no-name poly esky kept in the shade with constant opening and topping up of drinks. ambient temps were between 25-32ºC.
the trick is to keep the block dry (this is where the garbage bag helps), just don't make the bag air tight as it will become CO2 which will vent slowly every time you open the esky.
hope that helps

I always throw a bag of crushed in the bottom. Dry ice is so cold it can make the plastic in some eskys very brittle

Frozen Juice bottles also help. Like salt water ice they freeze at a lower temperature. Have you ever put a frozen juice bottle in an esky and chucked some party ice in with it? You can't get to the bottle for ages as all the ice sticks to it and turns into one big rock!
