Recently re-powered our Barcrusher 610C with a Honda BF150. Motor came fitted with a Solas S/Steel 14 1/4x17". Engine RPM seemed way to high at WOT with average MPH. My question is would fitting a larger pitch prop e.g Solas 14x19" help reduce RPM & increase top end somewhat? Ideally if anyone has the same engine/hull combo. could provide some input or recommend the correct prop. to purchase. Dealer who fitted it has not had too much experience with this particular combo.

Thanks.

Mate it depends on what the wot rpm is atm the bf 150 develops its hp at 5500rpm but will spin to 6000 rpm with no worries to the donk it is always best to have the motors wot neat the max rpm range I have the 90 honda vtec and if I run a 17 pitch I can just pull 5300rpm wot for 56kph but with a 15 pitch prop I can hit 6100 rpm wot for the same speed and I get way better fuel consumption with the lower pitch prop cause the motor is not lugging 17 pitch returns 1.9 k per litre and a 15 pitch returns 2.7 k per litre I know the motor revs more but it is free to rev and is not lugging its guts out ask spaniard_king on here as he is the honda goo roo cheers Brad.

Hey sunchaserbf90, thanks for the reply. Yes wanting to try get WOT rpm's closer to the 6000rpm mark. Should have mentioned that she gets up to 6300rpm & still has more throttle in it, cruising on 40kmh & sits close to 5000rpm. Going to pick up a 19" pitch & give it a run on the weekend. (Not sure if its o.k to run 21" on the Honda's due to gear ratio, anyone provide any further info. on this?) Interesting I would have thought your fuel consumption would have been better with the 17" pitch over the 15".

I think your tacho is out, or the 17"is badly worn

I have a customer with a 5.99 tabs and he runs a 14 3/4 x 16"and he just touches 6000 rpm

you can run any prop u like as long as it tops out near 6000.

on the back of the tacho has the calibration arrow been set to 1 ??

Hi mate, I had wondered if the tacho. may have been out but have checked it & the arrow is on 1. Prop. was also brand new so its can't be that so assumed it has to be the prop pitch. Wonder what the weight difference between the Tabs & BC is?

I would try a bigger 17 if you can like a 15 x 17 before going the 19

What speed by GPS does the boat do??

Tried a 14x19 yesterday spaniard_king & still no good, hitting 6400rpm & WOT with a top speed of 70kmh. Need to drop the revs. & hopefully get some more top end speed out of her, what about a 15x19"? GPS reads slightly less than speedo so not sure which is more accurate, assuming speedo would be. Have a list of various rpm's/speed's that I took yesterday with the 19" prop.

Yeah its good mate, surprised actually at how quick she gets up to speed. Was always doubtfull about the hole shot performance of a 4 stroke after having a 2 stroke on there but can honestly say the difference is not even noticeable. Just want to hurry up & get the correct prop. fitted a.s.a.p as its holding us back from heading out wide at the moment.
