Hi - anyone had experience with either Fin-nor or Tuff Tackle reels - about the 8000 size. Looking for something to throw poppers and slices up north Thanks Jim

Both on Alan Hawk`s "not reccommended" list. Have a look at the Shimano Saragosa.

I got a Fin nor Offshore 7500 as part of a combo with an Ahab rod I wanted. its a tough feeling reel but I made the mistake of greasing the antireverse system. Twice it failed. I have since found out that you only oil it. Its not an instant antireverse either so you can't jig with it. For the price I would probably buy a Spinfisher or Slammer. If you want to spend a few more $$$$ then the Gosa is bullet proof. I will use my fin Nor for an upcoming Swains trip so it will be a good test for it

Thanks also - seems sticking to the more popular brands is the view. Cheers Jim

I have a fin nor off shore 6500 spin reel and I have used it for trolling for macks and throwing poppers at GTs have landed a fair few fish over the past year, a fair few over the 15kg mark. No troubles with it so far. I plan on using it to get into some bigger GTs over easter.
