Checked Buoyweather on Thursday and decided that the bay was worth a shot.
Work finished about 4ish and I was on my way north about 6. Bloody Gateway carpark >:( >:(
Arrived at " the chongsters " place... we'll call it " Club Chill ".... around 930pm in Maryborough and settled in with a wee drinkie or two. After 4 hours sleep we awoke to darkness and my cuz , Yole waiting outside.
Hit the boat ramp a tad before sunrise but light enough.
Stopped at the Green Beacon top of Big Woody and jigged up some small but value livies..... then plotted a course for Moon Point and beyond.
I had not fished the bay for a couple of years and had to get familiar with the sandbars close to the Island and the deep water :-?
Wind was N possibly a little west in that North but it made for an easy trip in the Sportfish punching into it at 4500rpm. ;D
Came up on a old mark that didn't look like much.... so Yo and Chong drop a bait with nothing much doing, so I dropped in a livie.......... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... the fight was good on the spagetti rod ( 10kg M10 ) and soon had the big GT boatside and into the kill tank. Pic below.
We didn't have a camera on board so pic is from very old Nokia mobile. :'(
Moved further north over other marks and ended up at Roonies. A few fish came up but the good reefies were not hungry. Our berley trail was working a treat with a big Barrcuda checking out the Honda and then Yole is ON................... the little BTR4500 getting a work out on a nice 85cm Cobe, her first. High fives all round. By this time, chongs joy was going down faster than the Costa Concordia and then he's ON................... The call was shark, but as the critter came up to the boat.......big Cobe. It didn't like the look of the gaff and headed off towards the anchor rope and you guessed it... double wrapped itself around the rope and while attempting to untangle the line, bazinger......... Cobe.. gone-ski.... bugga ! >:(
A few more freight trains were hooked and released and the Nuclear Submarine is still steaming at 1,000knts towards NZ.................. !!!!!!!!!!! ::)
Let the tide change for nearly 2 hours, but the bottom feeders were not going to play the game.
Sighting many birds working schools of pelagics was the order of the day and even Longtails leaping clear of the water made a spectacular sight. A over-size sea-snake checked us out as well as Tommy Turtle. Many a school of Flying Fish on the return trip as well.
Headed down towards Wathumba and thought about peggin SP's for flatties in close, but ran over an old mark and the sounder lite up. Found a great little patch of what appeared to be hard bottom, some structure and weed, with fish all round.
Pulled some interesting fish from this including some “ mornay mowong “ ;) and a Unicorn Fish... google it... :) Chong left a Cod to live in it's hole / cave.
4.30pm and the call went out for “ lines up “. Cranked the Honda up to 5500rpm for the 40 minute trip back to Urangan.
Chong may have some pics ??? We didn't take many at all really.
Really great day on the water with good company. Yole provided lunch, Chong provided the laughs and I provided........ the platform and opportunity :) :) Chong was officially “ networking “. :-X
I stayed overnight Friday , watched the local Volleyball finals in which chongs, better half's ( Mel ) team went down by only 2 points, but none the less a great game. Wandered back to Club Chill for some Vodka's and a good nights sleep.
FYI.... Colorado pulling 2 ton.... Tiaro to Rochedale sth... 255k's and 40ltrs diesel. ( 15ltr / 100 at 110kph )....
The Mowong Mornay handed to me upon my departure from Maryborough was consumed late this arvo... I will never throw another Blackall / Slateybream / Morwong back again... yum-bloody-oo !! :) :)
