I was able to get out this morning on a solo trip to get some more hours up on the SPs, as I've always used bait. Left the boat at home and went landbase for something different. Got to the broadwater at 0600 started flicking a few hits nothing. Still walking along the bank tap, tap, tap, strike feeling a slight difference in weight, reel it in 1st fish toadfish. Hooked in the side.
The bites were starting to get few and far between, 10:50, so jumped in the car and went to southport coastguard flicking near the jetty no taps. Threw a 2" disco prawn out to the middle, zzzzzzzz in comes what I think is a barracuda,:-? correct me if I'm wrong. Very happy with my efforts, and the sun beating down on me, time to go. Was a good morning of flicking and learnt alot, can't wait to catch something I can eat.

Ahh darren ya broke the code, good on you, and the toothy critter is a yellow tail pike, you can eat them if your real hungry but ive never tried them myself, good as snapper bait though, we tried the passage today for 3 nice flathead, water still a bit murky but very fishable and tides were all wrong, was a bream fishing comp on today so we had to content with some very sleek boats getting around at warp speed.
Next time you try the plastics you will do much better im sure..

Welcome to the dark side! You will never pass a tackle shop without buying at least one packet of SPs for the rest of your fishing life!
And no more stinky pillies hiding in a corner of your boat for you to find a week later....
Cheers

I remember ny first fish on placcys, was standing on the beach wall at yamba wondering how to get a fish with this shiny paddle tail kokoda minow, then I accidentally dropped the plastic in the water at my feet, was about 8 foot deep, before it hit the bottom, this little flattie of about 30 cm jumped out and grabbed it, lol.
I knew I was onto something.
Well done, its all in the action.
cheers

Thats right Dan, I was watching the flicks of my rod and looking at what the plastic was doing. I was trying all different styles slow/fast roles, flick hight and pauses. That pike was on a fast roll on the surface with some pauses.

Those Pike go nuts for a SP!
A couple of years ago, I was complaining at work that during a recent trip I couldn't get past the pike. A couple of the old mates then went on to tell me how great eating they were. Just like whiting apparently. Next trip out, I bought one home for a chew. Granted, it was only an hour or two old by the time it hit the fry pan, but it wasn't too bad. Not the best fish in the sea, but it was certainly edible.
