Anyone had any experience with this rod or others in the SJR range? Looking for a new 7/8kg plastics rod and interested to hear anyone's thoughts.

Will have a 3000 daiwa reel on it to fish up to 20lb braid.

Thanks in advance and any other Loomis suggestions welcomed.

Cheers

I have an SJR844IMX with a 3000 Daiwa on it and I really like it.Its a good frog rod come light plastics rod for barra.
Unfortunately I dont get to use it near enough.

I should add that the 844 is more of a 6kg rod IMO so the 843 is going to be lighter again making it in the 4kg class.(Also my opinion)
I run 30lb Castaway over mine and have another spool with 20lb on it.
Check your casting weights of what you want to chuck then choose from there I reckon.

Thanks mate. That's almost enough to turn me off it. I really am after a 7-8kg rod that fishes like a 7-8kg rod. Interesting if anyone else has a suggestion on good 8kg Loomis rod, 7 foot.

Thanks

Have a look at the Loomis LR844S. I have used one of these for many years chasing Snapper with plastics and 20LB braid. They are rated 10-20LB with a moderate action and are a GL2 blank which i seem to prefer over more fragile high modulus blanks of any brand.

If thats what you want look at the Gary Howard GFX range.I also have the 20lb version I think it is and its a step up again from the 844.
Or you could just do what everybody else does and get an S10.(Not that there is anything wrong with that);D

I had an S10 and sold it! Didn't have a boat at the time and just didn't get to use it enough. They are rated to 20lb I am after something just a little bit more finesse.

Samurai Reaction 402 would be the standout pick for me ( If your budget allows) ........ it has a broad range 10-20lb so it covers a lot of situations.
my next pick - specially if you are on a Budget are the Lucky Craft LCS range (3 tapers available and rated from 6-20lb) ....... These are sweet - as they have a very fine tip section but have reasonably good low down power - I use them for everything from river jewies , bay snapper right through to impoundment barra The first one originally bought for topwater froggin for barra fished with a 2500 - 3500 daiwa size reel (20lb braid) ...... I quickly followed it up with a second one to throw smaller swimbaits........
Locally they cost $320-$350 but you can bring one in from www.tacklewarehouse.com for around A$250 - certainly well worth a look if you want a finesse but capable placcy rod

Thanks mate. I looked at the Samurai the other day and yes it looks very good. Can't fault my 302 so it is an obvious choice I guess. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it is a 2 piece. In saying that the join is between the fore grip and the stripper guide so will impact the natural curve of the rod the least in this position. Might have to pop back for another look.

The lucky craft rods good and reasonably priced too. Is there much difference between the 3 rods and which would you recommend for bay/inshore plastics? The reaction tube is probably the most suitable as I rarely use jig heads less than 1/4 ounce.

Thanks for your help.

Dont worry about the two piece Samurai's - you will not notice it........ I kept forgetting that my 451 baitcaster was two piece
As for the lucky craft s - I use the Reaction tube for heavier presentations and the shakey head for lighter ones - I'd go the reaction tube

Nothing wrong with the sjr 844. I run this as my heavy bay rod and light offshore rod. i was running a sol 3000 on it till it blew apart locked up with 35lb running through the rod on a big kingy. Plenty of guts down low, but not so much feel on the lighter jigheads. ive now match it with the new caldia 4000, hopefully i dont break that at the next curtain trip.

Another rod well worth a look at is the 803 nrx. a little shorter at 6'8" but for a10-14lb rod has got some go and a really nice fast action. i fish 1/2 and 3/4 through it but 3/4 is getting a bit heavy for the light finesse tip.

I ended up getting the SJR 843 IMX. Can't wait to fish it. I also got a nitro viper which is quite heavy in the butt so should go well as a light(ish) offshore rod. can't wait to fish it too. Now I only hope the wife doesn't get on this site!

Thanks for your reply.
