If you didn't see the link on the other thread...

These are just one man's opinions, but they are very informed opinions, from someone with a thorough understanding of the mechanics of spinning reels.

I thought the "Best Budget Offshore Spinning Reel" list might be useful to anyone who wants to fish heavy drag on a spinning reel and wants a "cheaper alternative". The Omoto Severo comes in at 2nd place, but is almost twice the price of the Shimano Saragosa overseas, which is placed 3rd. The Tica Talisman, though, costs only a few dollars more than the Saragosa and is ranked 1st. I think I'd still buy the Saragosa, if I was wanting a budget-priced offshore spinning reel, because of the availability of parts and Shimano's generally excellent quality control.

Interesting stuff. I had a quick look but could not find any info on his website about the FN Offshore. Does anybody know why its on the "not recommended" list.

I think thats because of quality control issues. I have a OFS-65 and have had problems with the anti-reverse. It has failed twice now. Even when working it is clunky and not suitable for activities such as jigging. Some early ones had issues with the main gears. They are also very heavy. On the plus side they have a great drag and huge line capacity
