Hey guys

Been trying real hard to catch my first jack since november and still havent got onto one i heard they are pritty hard fish to catch and i no its getting to the end of their season and the rain hasnt helped either so i really wanna try get one before their season ends. I live at paradise point on the gold coast and heard heaps of people have been catching them all around the broad water but can anyone please help get onto my first one. So far ive been throwing in mullet fillets and herring also trying with a few rapala x raps which people at bcf told me to get probably because they are the most expensive! But if anyone can give me any tips, general areas, tides or what hard or soft plastics to use it would be a great help!! Ive got my own boat so i dont have to fish from land any advice would really help!!

Cheers!

Gday mate,
Any of the bridges in the canals can hold them (Manaco st etc). Fish the slack of the tides, and start with livies. Failing that, try dead fillets, whole dead herring/mullet, and even ox kidney. All the above have caught me jacks. Should pick up in there again within a week or two. Also have a go at Soveriegn Island bridge.

i fish soverign island quiet alot and i can tell you almost every jetty has a jack or two living under it,anchor 10 to 15m out and throw your bait pretty close to the pylons and wait, use heavy leader, i use usually 40- 50 lbs, with 20lbs braid, live herring, silver biddies are top baits, either fish the night or very early mornings, you will have trouble catching them in the middle of the day but not impossible, keep as quiet as you can , no banging the anchor on the boat or dropping sinkers, tends to scare them.slack tides as has been said i prefer an hour before and after the high tide, but i know alot of jack guys who like the low tides.
The early mornings are great for throwing lures around just keep moving around the jetties around the island throwing inbetween them, using at least 20 -30 lbs leader, and the best advice is have patience, took me a few years to get my first jack, good things come to those who wait, and fish.
