Whilst cooking dinner Monday evening I heard the unmistakeable sound of baitfish scattering in the canals off our back yard.
I grabbed my baitcaster outfit, yelled at my wife to make sure the veggies didn't burn, and rushed down the bank to have a few casts.
Started with a 17g Maniac and could only raise a few bumps and follows.
Switched to a 20g Knight and all had gone quiet.
Suddenly there was HAVOC only 7mtrs to my left against the bank as a group of heavies was busting the herring up so much that the water was boiling, and the baitfish were launching out of the water onto the sand near my feet to try and escape.
I retrieved and cast over the boil, but as quick as they started to feed, they were gone again :-?
I persisted and a few casts later this +/- 50cm (no mat) fella hooked up and brought a major ;D to my dial !!

Gotta love the opportunities that GC canals present :) :)76221

I love it mate. Reminds me of late nights on the pontoon at Noosa sound. I'd have a 2-4kg spinning outfit sitting on my shoulder, just waiting for boils to appear. They were quite regular, maybe a boil avery 3-4 minutes. Never caught anything doing blind casts & retrieve. On the first sign of a boilup a pin point cast would yield a trevor every time. But it only worked while there was surface action, and if the cast was just out of the zone it they wouldn't strike. A very sporting way to fish. That size GT is my favourite for sashimi. Kudos to you.

There are things I'd like to call you now but I don't think they allow it on this site. I'll settle for you lucky bugger, I never knew cooking vegies could be so exciting. Great work mate now get back clean the dishes.

Cheers

10 min drive beats 1 hour 20! Only problem with being on the water is lots of rain and high tide. I hope you blokes fare ok through this rainy period.
