New reel

Looking for some advice on what to do with a reel I have picked up cheap. It's an Okuma Convector CN L30 which I got for $40 brand new in box;D.

I figured at some stage I'd setup a heavy overhead rig for deep sea fishing and want some advice on what to partner it up with in terms of gear.

Braid or Mono (I love plastics but would fish with livies if I could so don't know whether braid is really suited to livies)
Rod?? - nothing that will break the bank but would be mid range ish....thoughts?7612076121

300 yds braid,maybe 50lb depending on what fish your after,shimano beastmaster around 5-6ft 1 piece,both these would only cost $150 approx,thats what i use and have no issues at all,although im hardly an expert on fishing outside.

Cheers spd - do you fish with livies on yours?? Am wondering whether to run braid to a swivel and sinker, then fluoro carb leader?? Have done this before and seemed to have some success.

Any suggestions on braid type, looking on ebay for some 60lb braid (i tend to stay away from the china stuff) brands like spectra? Power Pro?

If on ebay for braid check out a fella who goes by rivertoreef, has fins braid at cheap price. Would go 50lb braid.
