I have read encouraging reviews of the new model Stradic but wanted to hear feedback from people that actually own and use one of these reels.

I own several FI Stradics (1000/3000/4000) and have found them to be very solid and reliable reels. As per Shimano's advertising they are the "workhorse" of their spinning reel range.

Santa has given me some gift vouchers and I was considering buying an FJ Stradic in the 2500 size.

Is the new Stradic noticeably improved compared to the previous model?

I don't own a FJ but I did have a play in the shop with one and it felt smother then the FI.
From what I understand the x-ship floats the main shaft on bearings which makes it smoother.

I have the 2500fj and love it. I managed to get 300m of 6lb braid on (for bonito and small tuna etc, I didn't want to get spooled before I could get after a big one in the boat). The drag is very smooth and it generally just a very nice reel to use.

Cheers,
Myles

Thanks Mate. I appreciate your feedback. It appears as though Shimano have improved what was already a great reel.

Get one. You won't be disappointed. Excellent reel for the price.

I have a 5000 and so far its been faultless on tuna and macks to 8kg. Just need to hook a big one to really give the drag a good test.
