I had been taking to my mate Noel on Friday and it was decided we would try for some salmon in the river.
Noel had caught a blue salmon a few days before.
Was told to bring some heavy duty gear.
I have an overhead Shimano TLD 20 unit I hadn't used before.
It had been gathering dust for quite a while.
Thought this would be the perfect opportunity.

The TLD 20 had 60lb line on it.
I also took a shimano charter special with 30lb line.

We launched at low water.
I had brought 1 crabpot to try for some muddies.
This was baited & thrown over when a suitable spot was found.

Noel threw the cast net for an hour to get some live bait.

During this time a barramundini decided to swim into the net from the outside & become trapped.
A picture was taken after getting it out of the castnet & it was released back into the water.
Had about 1kg + a bit more of mixed size prawns for bait.

Went for a bit of a look around first to look for a good spot to try.
We then anchored to try our luck.

Was action not long after throwing a baited hook over.
First one was a blue salmon this was hooked until it started doing cartwheels & jumping out of the water near the boat and then dehooked itself & took off.

Another was hooked and got away right next to the boat after it chewed through 40lb wire trace.
The wire trace was just shredded.
I had brought some 80lb wire trace with me.
This replaced the 40lb wire.

Not long after this Noel hooked another threadfin.
This one did not get away.
It was landed in the boat.
This was the smallest of threadfin landed.

Not long after this I hooked one & was not letting it get away.
It was hooked about 3 metres from the boat.
This was the 2nd largest of salmon landed in the boat.
My first threadfin !!

A little while later Noel landed the biggest of all threadfin landed in the boat.
This one almost got away as it had wrapped the line around the outboard.

There were 3 threadfin & 1 blue salmon hooked but not landed.
These got away near to the boat.

All the threadfin were caught in about an hour.

Other species caught were 4 stingrays & 6 pike eels + a few catfish.

One eel dislodged itself and got into the boat causing a bit of alarm after it started thrashing around.
Both of us were barefoot.
Have you seen the teeth on those things ??

Only 1 small crab in the pot.
Looks like an eeel chewed a hole it.
When I lifted the pot the crab fell out through the hole.

Decided to call it a day at 3 o'clock.

Had an awesome day out.
One of the best days fishing I have ever had.

Fish were weighed this morning

From largest to smallest the weights were 6.07kg, 4.61kg & 3.3kg.

You can see the lengths of the fish on the brag mat picture.

Ate some fillets tonight.
Very tasty !!

Up close and still have the scar from boxing day on my hand. My six year old girl has the psychological scarring. Bugger of a thing just wouldn't let go.
