What is a "Friend Request"...and what changes if you accept one??

Not very "forum savvy" :-[...so while I am happy to have received a "friend request" I don't know what it actually means; expecially regarding any changes to privacy or security that might result from accepting such a request.

I tried a search but didn't find anything very useful (remember I already confessed to not being very "forum savvy' so it might just be that I am not looking in the right places ::) )

Can anyone enlighten me please?

No changes to your privacy or security. Simple ads a member to your buddy list and vise versa so it makes it easier to pm and see when they are online.
